Birding The Alicante/Murcia (Costa Blanca) and South Eastern Castille La Mancha Areas Of Spain

The Spanish mainland, indeed the whole of the Iberian peninsula and
islands are fantastic locations to go birding.

Coto Donana, Tarifa, Extremadura, Mallorca and the Ebro Delta
immediately spring to mind, but the Costa Blanca area can be very good
for a wide variety of species.

Visiting birdwatchers have been surprised at how many species can be seen in a short
period of time. On a good day over 100 can be achieved and over 150 in a week,
more in the peak migration times.

Whether you are an experienced birder, a beginner or somewhere in between,
local knowledge is a must to find all the species of the area.
Guided trips are available to the best habitats in the area.

With many cheap flights into Alicante and Murcia, cheap car hire,
plentiful accommodation and quiet roads compared to most of Europe,
the area is very convenient to see many of the Spanish and Southern European specialities.

All of the local guided trips are designed to give at least 3 to 4 hours
of birdwatching depending on traffic conditions.

They are taken at a fairly leisurely pace and are not a ‘twitch’.
All participants should see good numbers of birds.

For details of these trips click on the 'Local Birding Trips' button above.

'Where To Watch' type Guide Books are available for the Costa Blanca and The Pyrenees
with details of where to find the interesting species of the area.
Details of these books are shown below.

These books can be purchased by clicking on the 'Guide Books' menu entry above.

14 Night Birding Trip to the Panama Canal Zone March 2023

I am planning a 14 night trip to the Panama Canal Zone taking place early to mid-March 2023.

This trip will be very similar to the trip I completed in March 2022 where I saw
504 species of birds. Although I would not count myself in any way as a guide
for this trip, having now completed a trip there and one previously to Costa Rica
I do have a reasonable idea of what I am looking at and can identify a lot of
species by sight, if not sound. Also, from my previous experience, I know where
to find certain species. I would not charge anything for guiding but
would just organize the whole trip, book hotels etc. for a modest fee.
I am open to any suggestions for preferred dates, but I think the first two weeks
in March are a very good time to visit, both weatherwise and birdwise. For details
of my trip this year (to whet your appetite) please click the button.

The total cost of this trip for me in 2022 was around £2200 everything included
which I thought was excellent value for what was on offer. This truly is a trip
of a lifetime. Birding doesn't get much better than this.

Accommodation would be in 2 excellent resorts in the rainforest north of Panama
City, namely Summit Rainforest Resort and Gamboa Rainforest Resort.
This would allow visits to all the places I visited on my 2022 trip with the
exception of the Pearl Islands trip which was not really a success.
